Vladimir Putin Nominates Mikhail Mishustin as New Russian Prime Minister

Vladimir Putin has nominated Mikhail Mishustin as Russia’s new prime minister, shortly after Dmitry Medvedev and his government resigned following Putin’s call for broad changes to the constitution.

Russia’s President Putin is planning to appoint new members of the Government by himself and has asked the outgoing government to continue working until they are in place. The long-time ally and former president Dmitry Medvedev announced his resignation on state TV sitting next to Putin, who thanked him for his work.

Putin said Medvedev would take on a new job as deputy head of Russia’s Security Council.
